Increase Construction Productivity in 6 Easy Ways

In the field of construction, productivity is the biggest priority. Productivity can be defined as the measure of the rate at which the work is performed. Here we will be talking about six easy ways to increase construction productivity.

1.      Technology: Technology is a critical aspect of increasing construction productivity. Smart clothing, smart helmets, halo lights, digital measuring systems etc. are the most modern state of the art equipment used by workers to increase the productivity in construction. The software also plays a significant role in proper planning and supervision of the construction which thereby increases productivity.

2.      Planning with statistical records: Planning increases productivity. It should be done keeping all aspects in mind. Planning can expose the strengths and weaknesses thereby improving productivity. While planning the workers should take consideration from past works and think about the pros and cons of the plan in detail before starting to execute it. Here the previous statistical data of their works come in hand.

3.      Improving training and giving work experience: A worker can only contribute to an increase in productivity when he is adequately trained in the field of work. Until and unless he has the work experience he cannot successfully participate in the rise of productivity. There should be supervisors in construction sites who will regularly asses the trainees and teach new methods to the workers to sharpen their skill and ultimately contributing to the increase in the productivity of the work.

4.      Prefabrication of units: Many units in construction work are used repeatedly. If one starts making every unit from scratch, it becomes time-consuming and will decrease productivity. Prefabrication of those units in factories can save a lot of time and labour. In the long run, it is seen that it also reduces the cost.

5.      Safety training: One of the vital reason for a delay in construction is an accident. To prevent accidents from happening the workers must be adequately trained to avoid such circumstances. Even if such unavoidable circumstances occur, they should be taught how to overcome the situation. If the workers don’t feel safe, they can never contribute to the increase in productivity.

6.      Better Communication: Communication is key to harmony and whenever people work in harmony productivity is automatically high. The managers or supervisors should regularly communicate with their subordinates letting them know the importance of productivity. They should maintain harmony within them and motivate them to work as a team.

All these were straightforward but essential guidelines one should adopt to increase construction productivity. Neglecting even one aspect can lead to a massive loss in the productivity of work in construction.

The Indian Award for Civil Engineers has the Potential to Change the Face of the Industry

The rapid population coupled with urbanisation saw an exponential rise in real estate and construction industry in India. The growth of the construction industry saw the growth of many other ancillary industries.

Recently, a survey conducted by the government bodies in India found that there are many construction sites which are lenient when it comes to using the cheap and scrupulous method; putting human life in jeopardy. The need to stop such constructors and engineers became essential; the government started making strict rules and massive penalty system to curb them. A private TMT bar manufacturer brand tried their part to improve the situation. The SRMB TMT bars are often regarded as the best TMT bars currently available in the market; apart from manufacturing premium bars they started a system of honouring the engineers with Prestigious civil engineer awards in India. It is in human nature, we all crave to for honour for our work. The Indian award for civil engineers was successful in delivering that honour perfectly. Every year the managing directors of SRMB organise a program where they honour the best and honourable civil engineers. The criteria for judgment are quite vast. The use of quality material is one such essential criterion. There are several categories in which the engineers are categorised. A group exclusively reserved for budding civil engineers or civil engineering students is present. The organisation tried to encourage such promising talent for their work and also to imbibe the ethical values in them.

This unique platform provided by SRMB appreciates unique architectural ideas and designs keeping mind the quality as well. The initiative is still in its infancy days; so far the organisation has successfully hosted two konstrukt meets. The response from all sections of the industry was worth applauding. The number of participants in the second year of konstrukt was much higher than its previous event.  The SRMB have dedicated a separate website for konstrukt so that more and more people become aware of such a program. The site honours each of the previous winners of this prestigious award. The procedure to take part in this program is very simple. One needs to visit the official website of SRMB konstrukt and get himself registered. Once done with the registration process, the engineer or the construction house can send their innovative work via e-mail. The judge's panel will decide the winner and announced in the glittering program organised by the authority.

We all love to get honoured for our excellent work. An initiative on such a national scale can help many people reinvent new ideas and style. It will assist in diversifying the architectural industry.
